What is new in GATE 2009?

1.     From GATE 2009, the validity of GATE score will be ONE YEAR only.

2.    Papers merged from GATE 2009 onwards
  • With effect from GATE 2009, Information Technology (IT) paper is merged into Computer Science (CS) paper. There is no separate GATE Paper for IT. The name and code of the merged paper will be Computer Science and Information Technology (CS).
3    Papers discontinued from GATE 2009 onwards
  • Computational Science and Electrical Sciences sections have been discontinued in XE paper with effect from GATE 2009.
4.  Papers discontinued from GATE 2010 onwards
  • It has been decided to discontinue the offering of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PY) paper with effect from GATE 2010.

5    Change in Structure of GATE Papers

  •  There is a Change in Structure of GATE Papers in GATE 2009.

  • In  GATE 2009 examination paper will be of 3 hours duration and will contain 60 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of only multiple choice objective questions.  Each question will have four choices for the answer. Only one choice will be correct. Candidates have to mark the correct choice on an Optical Response Sheet (ORS) by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question.

  • There will be negative marking for wrong answers

6.  GG (Geology and Geophysics) Paper

  • There is a Change in the Structure of GG paper in GATE 2009

  • The GG paper will consist of two parts: Part A and Part B. Part A will be common to both Geology and Geophysics candidates. Part B will contain two  sections: Section 1 (Geology) and Section 2 (Geophysics). Geology candidates will attempt questions in Section 1 only. Geophysics candidates will attempt questions in Section 2 only.

  •  There will be a total of 60 questions carrying 100 marks. Part A will consist of 20 questions; all are 1-mark questions. Each of the sections (Section 1 & Section 2) in Part B will consist of 40 questions; all will be 2-mark question
